Pillar and underground hydrants

Pillar hydrant is a device connected to a pressurized water supply designated to supply water for firefighting during all phases of the fire.

It has a barrel which emerges from below the ground level, allowing above ground connection of equipment for firefighting purposes.

Following customer’s specification hydrant can be supplied:

• without connections: outlets are female BSP threaded. In this case the purchaser can provide by himself the required connection;
• with connection and plug: available connections Bocciolone can normally supply are UNI (Italian standard), DSP (French standard), BS 336 (British standard), NH (American standard), STORZ (German standard), GOST (Russian standard), UNE (Spanish standard).

Following customer’s requirements each hydrant can be supplied with:

• two side outlets;
• two side outlets and one front outlet for fire truck connection.

Each hydrant is supplied with antifreeze drainage system. The drainage system automatically drains the water inside the hydrant when it is closed and prevents internal surface of the shell from corrosion. All parts of the drainage system are made of corrosion resistant materials.

All components are in cast iron and they are duly coated to protect them against corrosion.

Our production program includes three styles of hydrants:

Style “EUR”

Made from cast iron. It comes in two models:

• type A: without break system: recommended in the area where hydrant cannot be hit by car or truck (such as green areas). It is cheaper and it performs better during pressure drop test;
• type C: with break system: recommended when possibility of collisions is believed to be more real (on the road for instance). The break system is a mechanism which allows the above ground part to separate from the below part when subject to impact whilst maintaining the seal of the main valve. The hydrant is designed to allow replacing the above part without excavation work.

Style “MONOTUBO”

Barrel is manufactured in galvanized steel, available only without break system.

Style “66FM”

American standard: barrel in cast iron, according to AWWA C 502, UL listed, FM approved, available only with break system.
